Statement from the jury that nominated Camel Up for Game of the Year (May 19, 2014):
The board game Camel Up is a family game par excellence. Due to its appealing and easy rules, everyone is in the game until the very end. And it leaves no one indifferent. This wild race stirs people's emotions and hopes, and brings a lot of laughter regardless of the players' age. A true work of art.
Five camels, a pyramid, dice, and up to 8 players make Camel Up the most exciting race in the middle of the Egyptian desert. Players bet on the camels and try to guess which camel will be first and which will be last at the end of the race, as well as during the race. But in all that crowd and commotion, the camels don't run as they should; instead, they push, jump, trip, go backward, jump on top of each other...
Like any game of chance, luck is the factor that decides the outcome to a large extent in this game, despite the fact that you try and do everything in your power to 'push' your camel forward.
Camel Up is a very fun board game, with a simple betting mechanism and unpredictable events in the race that ensure tension and uncertainty until the very end.
