Every year, the famous pirate Captain Morgan organizes a ship race around the island of Jamaica. You, as one of the renowned pirates of the seven seas, have decided to participate in the race for glory and wealth. Captain Morgan has hidden chests all around the island to make the race interesting. You must wisely choose whether it is more important to pick up a chest and thus lose your lead in the race, or maintain your position. The chests bring great treasures but also curses. In case another pirate ship gets in your way, prepare the cannons and open fire!
The board game Jamaica 2nd Edition is a pirate ship race game around a treasure island. Each player receives one pirate ship, a cargo hold board, and three cards in their color.
The active player is the captain and rolls two dice which they place in the center of the board (the island)—one die for day and one for night. Then, all players place one card from their hand which designates the action for that turn. The action can be movement or collecting one of three types of tokens: gunpowder, gold, or food. These tokens are placed on the cargo hold board. If movement is chosen, players move forward by the number of spaces indicated on the die. However, most spaces you land on require you to forfeit some tokens, such as gold or food. Some of these spaces have a treasure chest on them. When you collect it, you receive one treasure card. Treasure cards can be good or bad for you, so you must carefully consider whether it is worth it to deviate from your path to collect them. If you land on the same space as another player, an attack on them begins. Players roll a die, and the higher number wins the attack. Players can also spend gunpowder tokens to boost their attack.
The winner can plunder the defeated player by taking one of the sections from the opponent's cargo hold board and claiming all the goods from that section or by taking one of their treasure cards. A player can also give the opponent one of their treasure cards, usually a negative one that deducts points. When one ship sails around the island and crosses the finish line, the game ends, and players receive points based on their finishing position.
Players add and subtract the points they have, and the player with the most points is the winner.
