The Katamino board game is a construction game that allows children and adults to understand the basic concepts of 2D and 3D geometry and combinatorics. This educational/board game can be played in many different ways and is one of the rare games that can truly be played by children aged 3 and older (of course, with a limited number of tasks for the youngest age group).
Wooden blocks, similar to those in Tetris, are placed on a playing area that can be expanded or reduced depending on the need or difficulty level. This allows a three-year-old to play the game. However, in the same way, you can set a task that will give you a real mental workout. If you expand the playing area, you just need to add one piece. The setup seems simple, and that’s because it is.
But the pieces you add are not added randomly; instead, you use the book provided with the game, which contains over 35,000 tasks. The book is of excellent quality, as is the game itself, and its simplified method for setting tasks is its best feature. For each task, you’ll have pictures of the pieces to use, so even the youngest players can quickly understand what the task entails.
In the simplest version, you just arrange the pieces next to each other and solve the simplest tasks. For more complex tasks, you’ll need to activate all your brain cells and use the process of elimination to find the solution.
The game also includes a tangram version and the option to play in three dimensions. You can create an animal or a simple shape... Essentially, the game’s possibilities are endless because you can always come up with something new.
For children, the game significantly improves hand-eye coordination, problem-solving, concentration, and fine motor skills. The incredibly simple concept and immense educational potential are what set Katamino apart from most games of its kind.
