You are in the South American mountains, somewhere between the mountain ranges of Bolivia and Peru, where altitudes exceeding 3,000 meters impose harsh conditions on people trying to utilize the scarce vegetation for their needs.
The inhabitants manage to survive by fishing in Lake Titicaca, mining ore, raising alpacas, and trading goods produced from these resources. However, resources are limited and will eventually run out, so you will have to build new production facilities and find new sources of income, such as cocoa.
Build roads to speed up your development and store goods so you can survive the difficult times that are not uncommon in this barren region. If you plan wisely and are flexible enough to adapt to the harsh conditions of the Altiplano, you will eventually achieve the highest yield!
Altiplano is a resource management board game set in the South American Andes mountains. Competition for limited resources is fierce, but the primary focus in Altiplano is on building your own production engine to exploit it as best as you can—or at least better than the other players!
In this board game, each player begins with a unique role that grants them access to different resources and production methods. Players initially have limited access to production, but during the game, they can acquire additional production locations that open up new possibilities. Various types of goods—such as fish, alpaca, cocoa, silver, and corn—have their own characteristics and specific places where they can be used. For example, while silver can be sold for a high price at the market, fish can be exchanged for other goods at the port, and an alpaca can produce wool at the farm, which can then be turned into cloth.
In addition to building efficient production, players must fulfill their orders, develop infrastructure in a timely manner, and store their goods smartly. Often, a good warehouse manager is ultimately more relevant than the best producer!
