You are adventurers set in an alternative reality of 1930, where the lands of the northern hemisphere are poisoned and the masses are starving, as you set out to explore and settle the lands of a newly discovered Australia. Little did you know that Great Old Ones like Cthulhu, shoggoths, and zombies have survived, inhabited the outback, and are about to wake up!
AuZtralia is a military/adventure board game for one to four players. You begin with a port on the coast of Australia. From there, you will build a railway into the outback to mine resources and establish farms. Everything you do in the game costs time. At a certain point, the Old Ones will wake up and become an active player. They begin to reveal themselves and move, with potentially devastating outcomes.
Therefore, you will need to build your port, construct railways, mine resources, farm for food, recruit military units and unique personalities, and prepare for the awakening of the Ancient Ones! Believe me, you will need to be well-prepared for that moment, and you may even have to cooperate with others to defeat the most dangerous monsters, which always move toward the nearest settlement, whether it be a farm or a port. If they reach a farm, they will blight the land, and if they reach your port and you fail to defeat them, the game ends immediately.
The game ends when everyone has spent a specific number of Time Points (or if a port is destroyed). Your performance is measured in Victory Points, which you earn by establishing farms, defeating Old Ones, and through certain character cards. The Old Ones also score points based on how many of them remain at the end of the game and how many farms they have destroyed. The winner is whoever has the highest score—and that could very well be the monsters!
Will humanity prevail, or will the Old Ones have their revenge in AuZtralia?
