In the game Dungeon Petz, players take on the roles of leaders of an imp family. The game consists of several rounds of raising baby monsters to sell them to evil dungeon lords. In each turn, you send small imps to various locations on the map to gather the items necessary for raising your pets.
Players start with a single pet enclosure (i.e., a cage). You can send imps to fetch new and improved cages, new pets to raise, pet food (each pet requires a specific type of food), and so on. The game lasts five rounds, during which players compete to see which of their pets will win competitions and be purchased.
Pets start at level one and require little food and minimal maintenance. It is up to you to raise them to be as impressive as possible for the competitions. However, as their level increases, they will have greater demands and require more food. You must strive to meet these needs; otherwise, the pet will grow angry and attempt to escape its cage. Competitions take place at the end of each round, after which the most successful pets are sold, and players earn points. The player with the most points is the winner.
