The board game Tiletum casts players in the roles of wealthy merchants traveling across Europe—from the city of Tiletum (modern-day Tielt, Belgium) to Venice—during the early Renaissance period. Players travel to various cities to acquire trade contracts for wool and iron and to establish merchant houses. They must collect the necessary resources to fulfill these contracts, invest in the construction of monumental cathedrals, gain the favor of noble families, and participate in important trade fairs where their primary business takes place. Players also utilize the services of notable figures who are welcomed into their homes, thereby gaining the prestige that will make them the most famous merchant of the early Renaissance.
Tiletum is a dice-management game where dice serve a dual function: obtaining resources and performing actions. In each round, a certain number of dice are rolled. On a player's turn, they choose dice to gain resources in an amount equal to the die's value, and then perform the associated action. The strength of the action is inversely proportional to the value of the die, meaning that the fewer resources you receive, the more powerful the action you take, and vice versa.
