The board game Ultimate Railroads will provide you with the opportunity to compete in building the largest and most advanced railway network. To do this, you will need to place your workers to perform various important tasks. Developing simple tracks will quickly lead players to key locations, while modernizing their rail network will improve the efficiency of their machinery. Newer locomotives cover greater distances, and factories produce improved technology. Engineers, when used effectively, can provide the additional boost needed to outpace the competition.
Each player receives their own board, featuring space for factories and three railway lines (to three different cities). On each track, a player has the ability to use track tokens to mark the advancement of their rails (using a different colored marker for each type of rail). The central board contains (nearly) all the worker placement locations. Each location requires 1–3 workers. Players, who start the game with 5 workers (or 6 workers in games for 2–3 players), will take turns utilizing these locations. These very locations provide players with various opportunities and benefits that are extremely useful.
Each round ends when all players have placed or utilized their workers. Points are then scored for each track and factory line. After 7 rounds, the game ends, and the winner is, of course, the player with the most points!
There are many paths to victory: who will ride into the future at full steam, and who will derail? Whose empire will overcome the challenges ahead and emerge as the victor?
Ultimate Railroads includes the base game Russian Railroads, all expansions—German Railroads and American Railroads, as well as New Engineers, Juri Dreigleisky, and Manufactory Train—along with two new items: Asian Railroads and a solo play variant.
