The board game Captain Sonar is a cooperative team game where collaboration will be key! Because at the bottom of the ocean, no one will hear you scream!
In Captain Sonar, you and your teammates control a state-of-the-art submarine as you try to locate the enemy submarine to sink it before they do the same to you.
All team members sit on the same side of the table, and each takes on a specific role on the submarine, with the division of tasks depending on the number of players in the game: one player can be the Captain, who is responsible for moving the submarine and announcing the details of its movement; another player operates the sonar to listen to the opponent captain's commands and attempt to decipher where that submarine might be in the water; a third player can work in the munitions room preparing torpedoes, mines, and other equipment that will enable combat.
The board game Captain Sonar can be played in two ways: turn-by-turn or in real time. In the latter setup, all team members perform their actions simultaneously while also trying to track what the opponents are doing. When the captain is ready to launch an attack, the game pauses for a moment to see if a hit was landed—after that, play continues, and the target has either escaped or pieces of metal are scattered all over the ocean's surface...
Multiple maps are included with varying levels of difficulty. If you want a family version of this game, there is the Sonar Family board game, which is slightly simpler to play with less complicated gameplay and fewer roles, but just as much fun.
